Tourist farm Škerlj
Turistična kmetija Škerlj – Tourist Farm Škerlj is located in the ancient village of Tomaj on the Tabor Hill, which many believe is the heart of the Karst. No wonder, because this is where the best teran is made due to the special red soil terra rossa (jerovica).
The Karst is the land of teran, pršut and bora, a wind that carries our special character.
The Škerlj family (also known as the Roskeni) have been into farming for centuries. The first records of our family are dated to 1630. We, have been working for generations in our vineyards, orchards, vegetable gardens and, most recently, we keep bees.
The current head of the family is Izidor, the master of the estate, who is an expert butcher by trade. His knowledge and skills are the foundation of the production we are proud of.
In 1995, he and his wife Milojka started a tourism business and put homemade culinary delicacies on offer. We wish for our guests to experience the complete charm of the Karst and our ancient homestead, therefore we refurbished some of the traditional architecture as accommodation capacities.
Primož was trained as railway station manager but has also proven his abilities as a professional athlete, helps Master Izidor to take care for the farm and its products.
Master Izidor is very proud of his daughters Irena (an economist and a passionate cyclist), Anja (a landscape architect and an aficionado of sewing) and Teja (expert in food industry with a special talent in baking that results in her magnificent cakes).
Irena, Anja and Teja take care of the culinary range of top-quality fruits and products of their farm.
Everyone in the family is grateful for what nature gives us. We live in a wonderful place that we toil with deep respect to grow and enjoy wonderful fruits.
Our family values are passed down to our young ones in the same way we ourselves were taught – by joint labour and mutual respect.
